Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in America, affecting 1 in 6 men. In 2009, more than 192,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and more than 27,000 men will die from the disease this year.
To recognize Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September and to educate people about reducing their risk for prostate cancer, Swedish Medical Center is hosting a “Keeping Your Prostate Healthy” event at Portage Bay Café in South Lake Union. The free and informative event will feature:
- A Swedish prostate cancer surgeon sharing timely information on the latest advancements in prostate cancer treatment and tips for lowering risk for prostate cancer
- A live cooking demonstration by Portage Bay Café providing recipes for healthy eating.
- Inspirational stories from a prostate cancer survivor who lives by the LiveStrong motto.
Attendees will have an opportunity to personally interact with speakers at the event while enjoying tasty samples of the healthy recipes.
The event will be on Thursday, September 24 from 5 to 7 pm. It is a free event. Attendees will receive appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages will be served. Cash bar for alcoholic drinks.
