The South Lake Union Block Party is inching ever closer. Friday, August 7th is the big day. We've posted about the burger challenge, but what about food and drink for the masses? With its wealth of gastronomic options, this year's block party will give the Bite a run for its money.
Several South Lake Union eateries will be on hand to provide tasty dishes to satisfy just about any appetite, including Skillet, Whole Foods Market and others. The Cascade Farmers Market will also feature local fruits, vegetables, and other mouth-watering offerings from local vendors to enjoy throughout the day.
Area restaurants will also be offering up delectable food samples at the Block Party ($8 for 10 generous food samples and $5 for five samples – tickets can be purchased at the Information Booth). Proceeds will benefit local South Lake Union nonprofit Immanuel Community Services (ICS), whose mission is to rekindle hope, nurture community, and transform lives with dignity.
ICS has been providing assistance to individuals and organizations in South Lake Union’s Cascade neighborhood and greater Seattle area for over 35 years. ICS operates four critical programs – a food bank (South Lake Union’s only food bank), a community lunch, a hygiene program and a residential recovery program. ICS served nearly 16,000 meals last year, and its food bank supports 400-500 families per month.
Once again, the SLU Block Party will feature the 2nd annual Discover Wine event benefiting the Junior League of Seattle and Immanuel Community Services (ICS), taking place from 5:00 – 8:00 PM inside the Discovery Center. The Discover Wine event will feature 12 distinctive Washington wineries for guests to enjoy while browsing the interactive Discovery Center, including Balboa Winery, Cedergreen Cellars, Columbia Winery, DiStefano, Gamache Vintners, Hightower Cellars, J. Bookwalter, McCrea Cellars, Naches Heights, Note Bene, Thirsty Pagans and Zefina.
Discover Wine has a $15 entry fee which includes 12 wine tastes, gourmet appetizers from local restaurants, and a complimentary issue of Seattle Magazine and the Seattle City Guide. General admission and additional tasting tickets may be purchased at the Discovery Center upon arrival (cash only).
The Discover Wine event will benefit both Immanuel Community Services (ICS) and the Junior League of Seattle, a nonprofit organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Two-thirds of ticket proceeds will benefit the Junior League of Seattle, while one-third will benefit the ICS.
