South Lake Union Featured in New York Times

There's a piece on South Lake Union in the Travel section of this Sunday's New York Times. That's a pretty big deal!

It's available online right now on NYT's website. There's a bit of a history lesson in the beginning of the article, documenting SLU's transformation from an industrial area into a biotech and residential hub.

The article goes on to give a shoutout to some local favorites, including Espresso Vivace, Portage Bay Cafe, the Center for Wooden Boats and Venik Lounge.

The only quotation in the piece comes from Kristina Barnes, owner of Inner Chapters Bookstore and Cafe (and sponsor of The Southlake), who told the Times, “When we moved here in 2005, there was a lot less to do. It’s definitely changed a lot. It’s like downtown, but not downtown.”

Nice to see SLU get a little national recognition. I wonder how they heard about SLU and decided to write about it. Nice shoutout to some of the local businesses, particularly Inner Chapters (oh, they're a sponsor of this blog?). Good find.

Really nice picture of the Armory and some of the wooden boats, too.

SLUT length
I note that the article follows the party line of stating the round-trip length of a streetcar trip (2.6 miles) without actually saying so, presumably to make it sound a little more impressive.
