2-Way Mercer in limbo after being denied stimulus dollars

The Stranger's ECB reports that the state legislature's transportation committee has come to a decision on how the $350M the state has received in federal transportation stimulus dollars will be spent.

2-Way Mercer, and all of Seattle for that matter, got the snub.

The city had counted on receiving stimulus dollars for 2-Way Mercer and took every step to ensure its nomination would be accepted by the state legislature. In fact, members of the Seattle City Council sent a clear signal to the state legislature that the project was "shovel-ready" when they voted to release the city's share of cash toward the project on Monday (Seattle P-I).

Now 2-Way Mercer, which was planned to start construction this year, is left with a $50M funding gap and will likely be postponed.

Is this final?
I heard about this this morning and I'm unconvinced that this is anywhere near the final say. I don't know FOR SURE but as soon as I here the next steps, I will post them.

Why? Because it would be a travesty for Seattle to not be allocated these funds, particularly for infrastructure building! We live in the most trade-reliant state in America, and Seattle is the biggest economic contributor, so we need to keep things moving!

If there is time to act, we likely should.

Don't think its final final
There may still be time to contact your state legislator and make your voice heard.

SLOG has another update here. Sounds like there's a way you can circumvent the state legislature and go through USDOT instead, but it's no sure thing.

uhhh more pressing stuff...
how about spending this money on crumbling bridges where people could actually DIE in an earthquake?

2-way mercer is a boondoggle, the only reason there's traffic down there is because of poor planning by the city. all those condos in belltown and queen anne each add one person who has to go to work somewhere. seattle should pay for this out of its own pocket. the new developments SHOULD have paid but didn't.
