There has been a lot of speculation about what will happen to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer's 30-foot, 18.5 ton globe if in fact the newspaper cannot find a buyer and is shuttered.
One scenario that keeps popping up is one where the globe goes to the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI), which has been planning a move from its location in Montlake to the Armory building at Lake Union Park. It seems a natural fit, and the P-I has already left its photo archives to the museum. While I can't quite picture it lit up and spinning on top of the Armory, it is certainly deserved of a permanent display inside the museum given the P-I's contribution to Seattle over its 145-year history.
The renovation of the armory is expected to start next year, and the new MOHAI could open by 2012.
