Print is Dead or Troy Laundry is Sold

Troy Laundry Building

Updated with video after the jump

Earlier today, SLOG posted a photo of a dumpster full of newsstands outside the Seattle Times buidling with the headline 'Print is Dead'.

That is certainly a logical conclusion, albeit a melodramatic one, given this month's news that the P-I is up for sale and may stop printing in less than 60 days.

However, that SLOG intern likely wasn't armed with the knowledge that previous to the dumpster, the newsstands had been stored across the street in the historic Troy Laundry building, or that this very building was put up for sale by the Seattle Times in August in hopes of paying down their burdensome debt.

There were talks of a buyer in October, and hopes of closing and announcing a deal with said buyer by December, but the announcement never came.

A dumpster full of newsstands, and a peek through dirty windows revealing an empty Troy Laundry building, sends a signal to this neighborhood blogger that the Seattle Times has come to terms with a buyer and a deal is imminent.

Update: Somewhat depressing video shot outside the Seattle Times distribution center today, re-posted with permission from cheesecake:
