Tougo Coffee Co. "T2" is open for business

Tougo Coffee Co. T2

Just received word from Brian aka "Squirrel Pusher" (there must be a good story behind that) of Tougo Coffee Co. that their second location on Westlake Ave is now open.

T2 actually had its soft opening on Friday (though they eluded me on Saturday) and will be keeping hours of 6:00am – 5:00pm this week while they get a feel for the neighborhood's needs.

Personally, I like the option of grabbing a cuppajoe after work and relaxing a bit. How about you—would you like to see evening hours?

A grand opening celebration is in the works with details to follow, so stay tuned.

Tougos fills a gap in the neighborhood
I live near the Pike Place Market and, due to the dearth of non-chain coffee houses in the area with killer coffee and an attractive/comfortable local atmosphere, my geographic range of wandering Seattle for coffee hang-outs is pretty broad (Ballard, Phinney, Capitol Hill, etc.).

Last summer I discovered Tougo on 18th & Union. The first thing I noticed was how unusually welcoming Brian and staff were. No tragically uber-cool barista attitude here. Brian is one of those rare people in service industries who doesn't just treat people well, he really likes people, and it is apparent in how he runs his business.

Coffee: Obviously individual taste preferences vary. Vita is one of my favorites in town, but Brian takes it one step further. He has worked for - and thus has been trained by - several of the best baristas in town, has adopted his own method for pulling shots using Vita, and has trained his staff accordingly. In my opinion this is a far tastier cup than the standard Vita.

Food: Tougo not only offers a good basic selection of sweet pastries, they also sell fresh, delicious and healthy sandwiches/wraps/salads delivered by a local company (I've had most of them, I most frequently go for the salmon wrap). So if you need to camp out with your laptop (WiFi is planned but not sure whether it's up and running yet) and want real nourishment for a change, you're in luck.

They are still fine-tuning the shop in wrt their tea selection (more extensive at location #1), pastry ordering, etc, but if you live or work in the area you should check out the best local coffee joint in the neighborhood.
