New Park Coming to Denny Triangle

Seattle Parks has reached a preliminary agreement with Cornish College of the Arts to purchase a 9,000 sq ft property at 2100 Westlake Avenue for a new neighborhood park. The parcel is close by Whole Foods / 2200 and is currently being leased by Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

No details of the city's plans for the park have been revealed, but you can bet that South Lake Union residents have an opinion. Here's an idea from Daniel on the "What's SLU missing?" topic in the South Lake Union Community Site forum:
An off-leash dog park. With grass. It doesn't cut it that we have to go to a tiny little one, under I-5, that's nothing but rocks. How many of us would like to run around barefooted on rocks for an hour or so? And Belltown or Marymoor aren't practical for everyday usage if you live in SLU. I can go running in the city. I think our furry friends should have the same privilege, as well. Especially if SLU is pitching itself as "dog friendly."
A public meeting to discuss the park acquisition has been scheduled for next Wednesday, September 10 from 6:30 to 8:00pm at Cornish's 7th Fl. board room. More information available on Cosmo Seattle.

There is already a new child playground in the works at Denny Park so I don't think we need another one. There is definitely interest in a dog park.

Is there metered parking there? It would be great to raise awareness with a Friday, 9/19 Park(ing) Day event as they are doing at Alaska Junction in West Seattle.

I'd vote for a child playground, which'll be the best long term investment. The same 20 somethings carting around dogs will be pushing along strollers in the near future.
