Old Houses on Republican Demolished

Earlier today VintageSeattle.org posted about the coming destruction of two of Cascade's oldest houses on Republican Street.

The news also drew Jonathan Hanlon to the site, but he was too late. Hanlon chronicled the aftermath with black and white photos instead.

Word has it that the houses had been sitting vacant for some time, and were viewed as unsafe and unworthy of restoration.

Not just "Old", these were the oldest structures remaining in the Cascade neighborhood. The 1890 cedar-shingled home you picture would have been an ideal place for a Historic Cascade location, telling the stories of those who lived and worked before I-5 drove a stake through the heart of the area.
