Last week this posting was floating around the internets about a race versus the S.L.U.T.:
Faster Than the S.L.U.T. Guerilla (Run or Bike) Race or Ride

2.6 mile race from Pacific Place Hub (start) to Fred Hutchinson (finish)
Or join along the route at Whole Foods/ Westlake and Denny stop

We want to see SEXY! like lacy nightgowns and matching sweatbands. ooh la la. and don't forget your running shoes and g-strings guys and gals!

Thursday, July 24th
7:15pm START at westlake hub (5th & olive)

$1.75 entrance fee (if you RIDE the S.L.U.T.)
Free if you RACE the S.L.U.T.

Make Seattle proud people!!
Spread the word, bring your friends, PROMOTE THIS EVENT!

After Party at HOOTERS on South Lake Union
30 to 40 people actually showed up for the race, but it wasn't all fun and sheer fabric:
One cyclist, wearing just boxers and no helmet, got his front wheel caught in a groove of a streetcar rail.

He tumbled over his handlebars and was knocked out cold for a short time. The race stopped for about 45 minutes — as did the streetcar — while emergency vehicles rushed to the scene. The rider was taken to Harborview Medical Center with a mild concussion and a dislocated shoulder.
The race continued afterward, but the humbled racers stood no chance. The S.L.U.T. received a police escort to the finish line without making any stops.

This high profile accident served as a painful reminder of the streetcar and cyclists' disharmonious relationship:
Cyclists have protested the streetcar's alignment from the day it opened last December, saying it poses a danger to them. The Cascade Bicycle Club earlier this year said there have been at least a dozen bicycle crashes requiring medical attention, with injuries ranging from cuts to broken bones.

Seattle City Councilmember Jan Drago has urged that future streetcar lines be built in the middle of the street — rather than the side — to prevent further problems.
